About Me

I’m Thomas Rowley, a value analysis engineer who worked for Thorn AEI  in the UK at their Spennymoor manufacturing facility. A brilliant job. It meant I could use my imagination to do almost anything I could justify, with the intention of making some process or product cheaper to manufacture whilst keeping the product value the same. I spent years doing exactly as I pleased looking for new ways to do things. I worked at my own pace and completely independent of my peers in any factory department I wanted to and when I succeeded life was great. When I didn’t I had also succeeded in discovering yet another way that didn’t work!

I have spent all my life experimenting with anything which interested me especially with off-grid DIY projects. I have built two houses and rebuilt two others including the one I am presently living in. At every opportunity, I have incorporated DIY schemes as well as the DIY of the rebuilds. There should be something here which you find interesting or hopefully useful.

Now I don’t want to hear anyone say “I’m too old for this”. It’s not rocket science. If I can do it, you can too. I’ve been doing this for a long time and I never tire of it. After all – I was already at school when King George 6th died. I’m still working.  Get on with it…… Don’t watch it being done.. Do it!
